The CSIR- National Environment Engineering & Research Institution signed Memorandum of Understanding with Department of Science, Technology & Environment, Govt. of Punjab to address various environmental issues of the State.
The MoU was exchanged by Sh. R.K. Verma, IAS, Principal Secretary, Science, Technology & Environment, Govt. of Punjab and Dr. Hemant Purohit, Senior Most Scientist of CSIR- NEERI, Nagpur. Mr. Pardeep Garg, Joint Director and Mr. Gurharminder Singh, Sr. Scientific Officer, Department of Environment, Govt. of Punjab and Dr. Amit Bansiwal, Principal Scientist & Head, Business Development Group, Dr. Satish Dabe, Principal Scientist and team of Scientist of NEERI Delhi Center were present on the occasion.
MoU was signed at CSIR Science Centre (Vigyan Kendra), Lodhi Garden, New Delhi on 27.09.2019 to carry forward collaborative activities for period of five years.
NEERI is part of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) Network and has established R & D expertise in the area environmental science & engineering & monitoring besides addressing a range of environmental problems posed by Industry and Government Institutions.
NEERI will extend technical support to Department of Science, Technology & Environment, Govt. of Punjab for effective monitoring of Environmental Protection Action Plans prepared for Clean Rivers, Clean Air and Waste Management. The expertise of NEERI would also be availed for carrying out performance audit of regulatory bodies and third party audit of major STPs, CETPs and ETPs. NEERI would also extend support to the State for providing IoT based solutions for online environmental compliance for strengthening corrective measures for abatement of pollution.
The training and capacity building needs of various stakeholder departments for effective operation and maintenance of STPs/CETPs/ETPs, mitigation of air & noise pollution and waste management with focus RDF & legacy waste, etc. be addressed through the collaboration of NEERI and State Govt.
