The State has geared up its machinery for massive community mobilization for plastic waste shramdaan on 2nd October, 2019.
The Chief Secretary, Punjab held a meeting today with Department of Environment, Deptt. of Local Government and Deptt. of Rural Development & Panchayats, for building up the strategy for tackling the menace of plastic pollution under the umbrella of “Mission Tandrust Punjab”.
Keeping in view the wide ranging environmental and health consequences of plastic pollution, the State has decided to mobilize massive public involvement for galvanizing the noble initiative to mark the occasion of 550th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Detailed deliberations were held for strategizing the plan to foster public engagement for making the movement a grand success in the state. It was decided that the Department of Local Government shall prepare its readiness by all means to execute the drive at ward level and Department of Rural Development & Panchayats shall take lead to take the drive ahead in the villages. The Punjab Pollution Control Board was asked to publicise the clarity regarding obligations under Rules and the specific single use plastic items to be discouraged under the ban, as well as the alternatives among the public through every possible communication medium.
