Sutlej River enters Punjab near Nangal and meets river Beas at Harike and leaves Punjab near Ferozepur before entering into Pakistan.
The total length of River Sutlej in Punjab is approximately 440 kms with average discharge as measured at Ropar is approximately 500 m3/sec.
Ludhiana city is contributing significantly to water pollution of river Sutlej through Budha Nallah which passes through the heart of Ludhiana city.
Out of 50 towns which are discharging their waste water into river Sutlej, a total of 74 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) need to be installed, out of which 45 STPs have already been installed, 7 are under installation and remaining 22 are under various stages of planning for establishment.
